LONG BEACH, Miss. (WLOX) — Athletes competed in the Mississippi Senior Games beach volleyball tournament this weekend at Long Beach Harbor, with participants 50 and older playing in doubles and quads.
Long Beach Mayor Tim Pierce said the tournament drew a large crowd to the city’s courts.
“Oh my gosh, there’s so many people here, and they love our courts, and I’m just glad they picked Long Beach to come to and have their tournament,” Pierce said.

Tournament director David Craft said competing against players in the same age group provides a different experience than playing against younger athletes.
“I was still playing volleyball against younger people. You start to have a self-doubt because you’re like, well, I can’t keep up with these guys. And then you start playing against other people your age, and you realize how many people there are your age still playing. And then you kind of feel a little bit better because you’re like, hey, I’m actually still pretty good when I’m playing against people of my own age,” Craft said.
