SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Did you smell smoke this weekend? Smoke from a large vegetation fire on Santa Rosa Island in Santa Barbara County was impacting air quality in San Diego County, the National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed.
The 10,000-acre wildfire was burning on the south side of the island between Ford Point and South Point with 0% containment as of Sunday afternoon, according to Cal Fire. That smoke began moving towards the coast and impacted air quality across Southern California, including in San Diego County on Sunday, NWS reports.
A forecast model shared by the weather service shows the smoke drifting around the region, and reported surface smoke was expected to linger through at least Tuesday if the fire were to continue burning.
If you smelled smoke on Sunday you were not alone, some San Diegans around the county reporting smelling smoke, confirmed by NWS, from the wildfire.
Airnow.gov shows air quality trends dipped into the orange — unhealthy for sensitive groups — in the early hours on Sunday.

Strong winds are expected to continue Sunday with gusts 30 to 50 mph, and up to 65 mph in some areas like deserts, mountain desert slopes and mountain passes, according to NWS.
Gusty southwest to west winds continue today in the mountain passes, desert mountain slopes, and deserts with gust 40 to 50 mph through Sunday, with isolated gusts to 60 mph.
