OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) — Saturday night, a driver drove into a crowd in Oakland killing three people and injuring five.
Just before 11:15 p.m., Oakland police responded to reports of a car hitting several cars and pedestrians at 85th Avenue and International Boulevard.

Three people were pronounced dead at the scene. Three were transported to the hospital, two in critical condition and one with serious injuries. Two others were left with minor injuries and were awaiting treatment as of around 11 p.m., according to Oakland officials.
“Oakland is mourning the lives lost in last night’s tragic crash at International Boulevard and 85th Avenue in East Oakland,” said Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee in a statement. “Our hearts are with the victims, their families, loved ones, and all of those impacted.”
Officials said the suspect attempted to flee the scene after the crash but was stopped and detained by civilians, according to Oakland Fire Department officials.
Oakland police said it appeared that the driver, a minor, was speeding north on 85th Avenue and turned left onto International Boulevard before hitting a parked car and several pedestrians. Police arrested him and he was taken to the hospital for further medical treatment.
It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor.
