SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — SeaWorld San Diego is allowing the public to get up close and personal with one of the aquatic park’s most charismatic and cute animals: Sea Otters.
The park launched the Sea Otter Live Cam on May 11, allowing viewers to get an engaging and behind-the-scenes glimpse of Southern sea otters thriving in their daily routines. The livestream broadcasts daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from the Sea Otter Encounter habitat.
“Sea otters are some of the most engaging and charismatic animals in our care, and the debut of the Otter Cam offers a unique opportunity for guests to connect with them in a whole new way,” said Pete Peters, Zoological Curator. “At SeaWorld, our mission is to educate and inspire people to care about marine life and the environments they depend on.
According to SeaWorld, southern sea otters are listed as threatened, and the park’s otters were rescued along the California coast. They have been rehabilitated and deemed non-releasable by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Viewers of Sea Otter Live Cam will watch resident otters Coco, Mocha, Chilly, Bennett, and Jane as they eat, take ice baths and interact with each other.
