CLEMSON — Clemson’s roster will be bigger than ever following the addition of another transfer forward.

David Fuchs, a 6-foot-9, 245-pound native of Vienna, Austria, has committed to the Tigers, bringing Brad Brownell’s squad to 14 players. That’s one short of the relatively new roster limit of 15 for men’s basketball, which resulted from the NCAA’s House settlement.

Last season, Clemson remained at the old limit of 13, which can be advantageous in not spreading thin the revenue-sharing and name, image and likeness (NIL) resources used to compensate athletes on a roster.

But the Tigers probably need more frontcourt bodies this year because Carter Welling, the program’s leading rebounder in 2025-26, suffered an ACL injury in the ACC Tournament in March; the timetable for Welling’s return isn’t immediately clear.

Clemson also lost its leading scorer and second-leading rebounder, RJ Godfrey, to graduation this offseason.

The Tigers added former Lipscomb and Samford post Dylan Faulkner in April, but Fuchs brings another mature presence in the paint. The rising senior played two years at Rhode Island before he transferred to San Francisco last season, earning West Coast Conference Newcomer of the Year with 12.7 points and 7.8 rebounds per contest.

Fuchs (pronounced “Fooks”) isn’t necessarily a knockdown shooter, but he’s shown flashes of being able to hit from 3-point range. He was 51.7 percent from the floor last season, including 10-of-33 shooting from beyond the arc.

He is, however, a 61.6-percent shooter from the free-throw line in three seasons.

Fuchs’ addition leaves the Tigers with one open roster spot, but Brownell may have filled all of his needs. Along with Faulkner and Fuchs, Clemson added Notre Dame scoring guard Cole Certa and TCU wing Liutauras Lelevičius from the transfer portal.

It’s been a busy offseason for Brownell, who turned over his entire coaching staff, including new general manager Tyler Murray from Samford, and has now secured four transfer additions to join seven returnees and three incoming freshmen.

Clemson will rely on Ace Buckner and Zac Foster, the latter also returning from an ACL injury, to run the backcourt alongside Certa and potentially freshman Harris Reynolds.

Lelevičius, Chase Thompson and Dallas Thomas should feature on the wing with Faulkner and Fuchs joined by youngsters Trent Steinour, Blake Davidson and Will Stevens underneath. Amare Adams, a 6-6 freshman, is another backcourt piece.
