Law enforcement agencies across California are stepping up seat belt enforcement as the state’s annual “Click It or Ticket” campaign begins Monday.The campaign, which runs through May 31 and includes the busy Memorial Day weekend, is aimed at reminding drivers and passengers about the importance of buckling up on every trip, no matter how short the distance.Police say seat belts remain one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent serious injuries and save lives in a crash. According to the most recent California data from 2023, 780 people, including 24 children, were killed in crashes while not wearing seat belts. California law requires drivers and passengers to wear seat belts, and officers can stop motorists solely for failing to comply.
