Victim drowns in San Jose lake

(KRON) — A victim drowned in Cottonwood Lake at Hellyer County Park in San Jose over the weekend, authorities said.

Park rangers were alerted to “a person in distress in the water” at 1:40 p.m. Sunday, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office wrote. “It remains unclear why the individual entered the lake.”

A sheriff’s dive team and underwater search unit found the victim’s lifeless body less than three hours later.

Coyote Creek flows through the 178-acre urban park. Authorities said they were still working on Monday to confirm the victim’s identity.
