MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — A man from California has been sentenced for his role in a money laundering conspiracy and providing false testimony.

According to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice, Southern District of Alabama, 58-year-old Mohammed Zohair Adi was sentenced to 180 months in prison for his charges. He must also pay a $50,000 fine and serve three years of parole following his release.

Court documents show that Adi laundered millions of dollars connected to a drug trafficking organization. The organization reportedly transported 1,000 kilograms of marijuana from California to Alabama on commercial flights.

Officials say Adi had several bank accounts and would purposely restructure transactions in order to avoid certain currency transaction requirements.

He pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit money laundering on Jan. 30, 2023. Following this, he falsely testified about co-defendant Navjit Bhullar in front of a judge of the Southern District of Alabama on March 14, 2023.

Adi claimed that he and Bhullar only met once to discuss their case in mid-January 2023. The pair met in February 2023 in an office in Sacramento and discussed the case again, as well as Adi’s guilty plea.

Adi pleaded guilty to providing false testimony under oath before the Court on March 2, 2026.

Bhullar is set to be sentenced on June 29. Officials say ten other co-defendants have already been sentenced.

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration and Trial Attorneys Sinan Kalayoglu and Kaycee Sullivan of the Criminal Division’s Money Laundering, Narcotics, and Forfeiture Section, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Roller for the Southern District of Alabama prosecuted the cases.
