Re “The making of the city’s budget crisis” (May 17): I have a combined 39-plus years of service in public safety with two fire departments, retiring as fire chief. I do not read in this article any argument relating to a charter city having a “strong mayor” form of government versus a professional city manager form of government.
I have seen both in my professional career. Each form of government has its own pros and cons, I understand that. But I strongly believe a city manager form of government would end the political downward spiral of our “America’s Finest City.” Perhaps a charter change accomplished using a citizen ballot measure could address our “crisis.”
