As millions brace for possible impacts to SNAP benefits due to the government shutdown, local food banks are stepping in to meet the urgent demand for meals.
The need for food assistance is not uncommon in California, where one in every seven people struggles with accessing enough food on a daily basis.
ABC7 Los Angeles is tracking where you can get help with groceries, meals and other household needs during this disaster-level event.
Friday, two federal judges ordered the Trump White House to continue SNAP funding using contingency funds during the government shutdown. Appeals are expected.

CalFresh Benefits – LA County
Despite the government shutdown, people who have lost their jobs can still apply for CalFresh benefits as applications are still being processed.
If you are approved for November benefits, issuance will be delayed.
WIC Benefits – LA County
Women who are pregnant or with children under age 5 can still enroll for and receive WIC service during the government shutdown.
Additionally, federal employees who are pregnant or with young children may be eligible for WIC assistance during the shutdown.
Inland Empire (Riverside/San Bernardino counties)

CEO Carolyn Solar said an additional 900 food boxes are being added to mobile food distribution sites each month during the shutdown.
Solar also said some partner agencies have been temporarily paired with Inland Empire grocery stores to ensure food is reaching those who need it most.
