A development firm will acquire about 35 acres of Blue Diamond’s midtown Sacramento campus for a mixed-use redevelopment project expected to include 1,000 to 2,000 homes, retail space and community amenities.
Blue Diamond Growers said the project remains in the early stages as Sacramento-based Bardis & Miry Development completes its due diligence review. More details about design plans, project phasing and community engagement are expected in the coming months.
“We’re excited about this next chapter for the site. Blue Diamond has been part of Sacramento’s story for generations, and we’re proud to play a role in shaping its future,” President & CEO Kai Bockmann said.
The development company said it plans to create a walkable mixed-use community while preserving the character and history of the property and surrounding neighborhoods, including Midtown, Boulevard Park and the Growers District.
“The Blue Diamond plant site has been a part of Sacramento for over a century, and we are grateful for the opportunity to build on that legacy in a way that will serve the community for many years to come,” stated Katherine Bardis of Bardis & Miry Development.
Bay Miry said redevelopment options are still being evaluated, but the initial vision includes housing, ground-floor retail and community amenities.
As part of the agreement, Blue Diamond secured a three-year leaseback that will keep its corporate headquarters on the campus until at least April 2030. The cooperative also said it will retain about 19 acres for inshell almond processing and that its headquarters will remain in Sacramento.
