More than 1,000 artifacts were stolen from a museum’s storage facility in California, according to authorities.
The Oakland Police Department on Wednesday said the Oakland Museum of California’s off-site storage facility was targeted.

The theft that occurred represents a brazen act that robs the public of our state’s cultural heritage,” Oakland Museum of California Executive Director and CEO Lori Fogarty said in a news release.Most of these objects have been given to the Museum by generous donors,” Fogarty added. “We are working in close partnership with the City of Oakland, the Oakland Police Department, and the FBI to see that these objects are returned.”
Police said the theft took place on October 15 around 3:30 p.m., with the stolen items including Native American baskets, jewelry, and other historic artifacts, as well as laptops.
