A man is dead after the car he was in was hit by a Tri-Rail train on Wednesday in Oakland Park.

According to Tri-Rail, the crash happened at 10:12 a.m. as a train was heading southbound to the maintenance yard. It hit the car at Oakland Park Boulevard.

The male driver was killed in the crash, officials said.

No passengers were on board the train during the impact.

The cause of the crash was not immediately available.

Tri-Rail said a bus bridge was in place to take passengers between the Cypress Creek and Fort Lauderdale stations.

“We expect train service delays for the next few hours,” officials said.

BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
