BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Bakersfield Police Department cracked down on illegal street racing and takeover activities in the city over the weekend, resulting in an arrest, 28 citations, and five vehicles impounded.
In a social media post, they showed videos of cars participating in the activities and the vehicles being pulled over or towed away.
The post said that the activities are dangerous and will not be tolerated in Bakersfield.
Bakersfield police said the Traffic Unit became aware of planned vehicle takeover events throughout Bakersfield involving multiple car clubs from surrounding cities.
The post said, “Through ongoing investigations, officers conducted a targeted enforcement operation over the weekend aimed at disrupting the events and deterring future takeover activity within our community.”

As a result of the operation, BPD officers issued 28 citations, cited and released two drivers for reckless driving, and impounded five vehicles. Police said one person was arrested on a felony warrant.

Police said follow-up investigations continue, and additional vehicles involved will be seized at a later time.
“Individuals who participate in illegal vehicle gatherings or related criminal activity will be identified and held accountable,” said in the post. “Participating in any of these types of dangerous activities can result in severe injuries or death. For those individuals who do participate, and as a result someone is killed, those individuals can be charged with murder.”
