Boy credited with saving father after kite board fall at Long Beach in Nahant

A young boy is being credited with saving his distressed father after the man fell off his kiteboard in Nahant, Massachusetts, on Wednesday afternoon.Nahant police Chief Timothy Furlong and fire Chief Austin Antrim said they received a 911 call around 12:30 p.m. about a kiteboarder at Long Beach who was struggling to get back on his board.Officials said the kite boarder’s 11-year-old son asked a bystander on shore to call 911 to help his father.Crews from several different law enforcement agencies raced into the water to help pull the 47-year-old East Boston man to safety.Video provided by the Nahant Police Department shows crews pulling the exhausted man into a boat with his kite in tow.”He had no injuries,” Antrim said. “He was just exhausted after the ordeal and would not have been able to get back to shore on his own. His son really did a great job, staying calm and calling for help.”The man was pulled ashore by 12:41 p.m. and declined medical transport, according to authorities.”When we cooperate along our coastline, we save lives,” Furlong said. “Our agencies can accomplish anything if we work together. We’re all so glad this rescue had a happy ending.”
