The Anaheim Union High School District board is taking applications for appointment to fill a vacant trustee seat.
The vacancy comes after the resignation of longtime Area 3 Trustee Katherine H. Smith, who stepped down from her seat effective Sept. 29. Smith served on the school board since 1996, and during her decades-long tenure aided in starting the magnet school Oxford Academy.

The district’s Area 3 borders the neighboring city of Garden Grove, encompassing Magnolia High School, Savanna High School and Loara High School.
The person appointed will serve through the November 2026 general election, when the seat will appear on the ballot
Applicants must be registered voters and reside within the AUHSD Trustee Area 3. Applicants may not be employed by the district while serving on the board.
On Oct. 20, information packets will be sent to interested applicants to be filled out and returned to Bevins by 4 p.m. Oct. 30.
A special board meeting to interview candidates for the provisional appointment is planned for 5 p.m. on Nov. 6; there will be a public hearing for the appointment on Nov. 13.
AUHSD will host an information session for those interested in the position at 5:15 p.m. on Oct. 13 in the District Board Room at 501 N. Crescent Way in Anaheim.
