A 39-year-old man already serving multiple life sentences for murder has been arrested in connection with three additional killings in Long Beach dating back nearly two decades, police announced Friday.
Glenn Cox was booked Oct. 17 on suspicion of three counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
He is currently imprisoned at Avenal State Prison for an unrelated murder and attempted murder case.
Authorities said Cox confessed to several killings and an attempted murder to a staff member at the prison, who alerted detectives. Investigators later obtained additional confessions and corroborating evidence linking him to three Long Beach shootings between 2004 and 2007, police said.
The first incident occurred Dec. 20, 2004, when officers responded to the 100 block of East Pleasant Street and found four people shot. Two men — Carlos Serrano, 23, and Jeremy Kershaw, 22, both of Long Beach — died from their injuries, while two others survived.
On Feb. 16, 2007, officers responding to the 1700 block of Cherry Avenue found 31-year-old Dino Marks of Long Beach shot multiple times on a sidewalk. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The third case occurred Aug. 26, 2007, when a man riding a bicycle was shot and wounded in the 1000 block of East Pacific Coast Highway.
Detectives said all three shootings appear to be gang-related. The case has been presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
