BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The City of Bakersfield announced that its Water Resources Department has joined with other local water agencies to help prevent the spread of invasive golden mussels.
Officials ask residents who own boats to remember “The Golden Rule: Clean. Drain. Dry.” campaign. The campaign is to help prevent the spread of golden mussels in our local waterways, said the city.

Golden Mussels have not been detected in Lake Isabella or the Kern River at this time, said officials, but with summer boating coming up, water agencies are asking the public to follow the three rules below.
Clean vessels and gear inside and out right after leaving the water.Drain bilge, ballast, wells, and buckets before you leave the area.Dry equipment completely before launching into another body of water.
