Vote centers will open in Sacramento County on Saturday, allowing early in-person voting ahead of the June 2 primary election.
“Any registered voter in Sacramento County can go to any of the vote centers that are open and cast their ballot,” said Sacramento County spokesperson Ken Casparis.
The first group of vote centers will open on May 23 and the rest will open on May 30 ahead of the June 2 Election Day.

More than 90 vote centers will eventually open in total beginning May 30. Casparis said the early vote centers will also allow for voters to get registered if they have not already.
“We have same-day voter registration in California,” Casparis said. “So if you miss this deadline, you can register to vote at one of these vote centers.”
It has been 10 years since the state passed the Voter’s Choice Act. Because of it, Sacramento County voters have been able to cast their ballots in person two weeks before the state’s primary election day.
The state passed a law in 2016 changing how counties can run in-person voting. It replaced neighborhood polling places with countywide vote centers.
Sacramento County was among the first counties in California to adopt the optional system, and voters are no longer assigned to a single in-person voting location based on where they live.
The change was aimed at expanding access to in-person voting, but according to Sacramento County, about 94 percent of voters still cast ballots by mail. And many in-person voters continue waiting until Election Day to vote.
“We always encourage voters who want to vote in person to go vote early, just to avoid some of those lines,” Casparis said.
About 30 California counties now participate in the Voter’s Choice Act system, including Sacramento, Yolo, Placer and Los Angeles counties. Vote center locations, hours and more information can be found through the Sacramento County elections website.
