LONG BEACH, Miss. (WLOX) — Last weekend, hundreds flocked to downtown Long Beach for a taste of Bikin’ the Beach — an event featuring three days of motorcycles and music. A week later, good memories are not the only thing left over.

“When I started seeing people peeling out, I said, ‘That’s not good.’ I said something on the Long Beach Residents page which everybody kind of keys in,” Trax Bar and Grill co-owner David Notter said.

The city knew it would have to clean the street afterward, but the plans fell flat.
“I did my research before that stunt show took place, and supposedly, degreaser with a powerwasher and scrubber will take motorcycle tracks off the road. That was the intent we went in on, and obviously, it didn’t work,” Long Beach Mayor Tim Pierce said.

Though the sticky reminder remains, it does not mean the City of Long Beach is through with Bikin’ the Beach. But some things will have to change.
“The crowd had a great time, but I think there’s some issues we need to look at as far as safety – safety concerns. So, next year, if this event is allowed, it will probably be much more secured, and it probably won’t be on Jeff Davis,” Pierce said.
“I think it does have a place, but I think the peel out marks and all that was not necessary. I think that was a bad call on their part. If they want to do that, go do it down by the harbor,” Notter said.
