KCRA 3’S MICHELLE BANDUR IS LIVE FOR US IN RANCHO CORDOVA, WHERE OPERATION BOO IS ABOUT TO GET UNDERWAY. MICHELLE. WELL, TAKE A LOOK AT THIS SPOOKY HOUSE. THIS HAUNTED HOUSE TAKES UP THIS ENTIRE FRONT YARD, AND THESE FOLKS ARE GETTING READY FOR THOSE TRICK OR TREATERS WHO WILL BE OUT AND ABOUT DRESSED IN THEIR FAVORITE COSTUMES. BUT LAW ENFORCEMENT WARNS THAT LURKING AMONG THE CHILDREN COULD ALSO BE SOME PREDATORS, AND THAT’S WHY THEY ARE ALL TEAMING UP TONIGHT TO ALSO BE OUT AND ABOUT TO MAKE SURE THAT THOSE SEX OFFENDERS STAY HOME. NOW, WE DID CATCH UP WITH SOME OF THESE PAROLE AND LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS AS THEY GEAR UP FOR THE OPERATION. BOO. THE SEX OFFENDER COMPLIANCE CHECK IS HAPPENING ALL OVER THE STATE TONIGHT. HUNDREDS OF PAROLE AGENTS AND LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS WILL PAY A VISIT TO KNOWN SEX OFFENDERS. THERE ARE TEAMS MADE UP OF ABOUT 50 OFFICERS SPREADING OUT OVER SACRAMENTO COUNTY TONIGHT, WHICH INCLUDES SHERIFFS, DEPUTIES, PAROLE AND PROBATION OFFICERS. THEY WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THE CONVICTED SEX OFFENDERS DON’T HAVE CONTACT WITH CHILDREN AND FOLLOW THEIR CONDITIONS OF PAROLE, FOR EXAMPLE, THEY CAN’T HAND OUT CANDY, DISPLAY ANY HALLOWEEN DECORATIONS, HAVE CANDY ON THE PORCH, OR EVEN LEAVE A LIGHT ON. THEY CAN ONLY OPEN THE DOOR TO LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS, ADULT FAMILY MEMBERS, OR IF IT’S AN EMERGENCY. OUR JOB IS TO MAKE SURE THAT THE CHILDREN ARE SAFE. WE WANT THEM TO GO OUT AND TRICK OR TREAT, ENJOY THEIR NIGHT WITHOUT HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT ANY SEX OFFENDERS. MAKE SURE THAT PARENTS ARE REMINDING THEIR KIDS NOT TO GO UP TO A DOOR THAT WHERE THE LIGHTS ARE OFF, NO DECORATIONS. ALSO, JUST TO BE AWARE OF THEIR SURROUNDINGS. STAY WITH THEIR PARENTS IF THEY’RE YOUNG, NOT WANDER OFF BECAUSE THAT’S VERY IMPORTANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY’RE SAFE OUT THERE. AND THOSE TEAMS WILL BE SPANNING OUT ALL OVER SACRAMENTO COUNTY TONIGHT, GOING TO THE HOMES OF THE SEX OFFENDERS. OPERATION BOO WILL GO FROM FIVE TONIGHT, RIGHT NOW UNTIL 9:00 TONIGHT. AND THOSE SEX OFFENDERS DO HAVE A CURFEW. THEY CANNOT LEAVE THEIR HOMES FROM FIVE TONIGHT UNTIL FIVE TOMORROW MORNING. AND I’M TOLD THAT OPERATION BOO WAS PRETTY MUCH A SUCCESS LAST YEAR WITH 96% OF THOSE SEX OFFENDERS ON PAROLE MEETING ALL OF THOSE CONDITIONS, REPORTING LIVE IN RANCHO CORDOVA, MICHELLE BANDUR KCRA THREE NEWS. YEAH, MICHELLE, I MEAN, THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS, AND DEFINITELY PARENTS NEED TO TAKE PRECAUTIONS. I ALSO KNOW THERE’S A WEBSITE PARENTS CAN CHECK. YEAH. YOU KNOW, IF YOU’RE CURIOUS AS TO SEE WHO’S LIVING IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD, YOU CAN JUST ALWAYS GO TO THE SEX. SEX REGISTRY OF SEX OFFENDER REGISTRY WEBSITE THAT WILL TELL YOU WHO’S IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD. AND, YOU KNOW, YOU JUST WANT TO AVOID THOSE AREA.
