BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Triple-digit temperatures may not be back in Kern County yet, but local cooling centers are preparing for the summer season.

Officials said the county’s cooling center program is set to begin June 1 and is expected to run through Sept. 22, depending on funding.

The centers will open only when temperatures are forecast to reach dangerous levels, including 105 degrees in the San Joaquin and Kern River valleys.
