BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The California Highway Patrol announced its holiday enforcement period this Memorial Day weekend, reminding everyone to not drink and drive and wear seat belts.
The period is set to run from 6 p.m. Friday, May 22, through 11:59 p.m. Monday, May 25.

Officers across California will be on patrol looking for reckless and impaired drivers, according to CHP. They will also promote seat belt safety.
Last Memorial Day weekend, over 1,100 drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, CHP said. Officers investigated 22 fatal crashes in California, with many of those killed not wearing seat belts.
CHP reminded everyone to wear their seat belts, never drive impaired and secure children in proper car seats or booster seats.
