1 dead after crashing into Lake Isabella following pursuit with CHP
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A person is dead Monday after crashing into Lake Isabella following a pursuit with the California Highway Patrol.
According to CHP, just after 6 p.m. Saturday, officers attempted a traffic stop in the area of Scodie Avenue and Durwood Street in Kernville. The vehicle, a 2018 white Land Rover, failed to yield and a pursuit began southbound on Sierra Way.
The vehicle failed to safely turn in the area of Stine Cove and a short time later landed into a dirt embankment and Lake Isabella, according to CHP.
The vehicle fully submerged into the lake after the crash. The driver did not emerge and was found inside the car just before 3 a.m. Sunday after a rescue operation ensued.
The driver had fatal injuries, according to CHP.
CHP said it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
