EARLIER THIS MONTH, THE CITY COUNCIL APPROVED OUTLINING A PROCESS TO EXPLORE THE POTENTIAL EXPANSION. THE ORIGINAL PROPOSAL HAD A 4.4 ACRE AREA, CROSSLAND PARK DRIVE AND 1.4 ACRES, WHICH INCLUDED A MEMORIAL FOUNTAIN AND STATUE DEDICATED TO EARLY SACRAMENTO RESIDENT CHARLES SWANSTON. IN RESPONSE TO COMMUNITY FEEDBACK, THE ZOO HAS MODIFIED THE PROPOSED EXPANSION TO EXCLUDE THE FOUNTAIN AND THE STATUE. THEY SHAPED THIS CONCEPT DRAWING WITH US. THEY SHARED IT WITH US. AS YOU CAN SEE, THE ZOO SAYS THE REVISED EXPANSION HAS ALREADY BEEN SUBMITTED TO THE CITY.

The Sacramento Zoo has released updated concepts for its Land Park expansion proposal, revising the plan to address community feedback. Earlier this month, the Sacramento City Council approved outlining a process to explore the potential expansion. The original proposal included 4.4 acres across Land Park Drive that was previously used for pony rides, and 1.4 acres on the northern boundary of the current zoo, where a memorial fountain and statue dedicated to early Sacramento resident Charles Swanston is now located. In response to community feedback, the zoo modified the proposed expansion to exclude the fountain and statue. That reduces the expansion at the northern edge to 1.2 acres.
