BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Bakersfield police responded to multiple reports of reckless motorcycle and bicycle activity disrupting Memorial Day gatherings at The Park at Riverwalk, leading to the apprehension of four adults and one child, with motorcycles impounded.

The Bakersfield Police Department said throughout the afternoon of Monday, May 25th, 2026, BPD received numerous calls for service regarding reckless motorcycle and bicycle activity in the area of the Park at Riverwalk on Stockdale Highway.

According to police, the reported behavior disrupted the public’s ability to safely observe Memorial Day gatherings in the park.

Officers coordinated a response to the incidents, resulting in the apprehension of four adults and one juvenile for various California Vehicle Code violations and the impoundment of their motorcycles.

Police said the adults were identified as 35-year-old Robby Gomez, 19-year-old Elijiah Gonzalez, 18-year-old Roy Fuentes and 18-year-old Isaaic Hernandez.

Police said that the department continues to receive complaints involving illegal gas-powered and electric motorcycles being operated on public roadways, sidewalks, parks, trails, and other shared public spaces.

“Many of these vehicles are not equipped for lawful roadway use and often lack required safety equipment, registration, or insurance,” said in a release. “Operators are also frequently unlicensed and may disregard traffic laws, placing themselves and others at risk. Reckless operation of these vehicles can result in serious injury or death, particularly in crowded public areas where pedestrians and families are present.”

Bakersfield police encourage parents and guardians to closely monitor the use of gas-powered and electric motorcycles by children and to ensure vehicles are operated in compliance with California law.

BPD said officers will continue enforcement efforts aimed at improving public safety and addressing ongoing quality-of-life concerns throughout the community.
