The Kiwanis Club of Pacific Beach recently presented eight students with the Hope of America Award.

They were Harold Robison and Isaac Stratton from Barnard Mandarin Magnet Elementary, Ryder White and Brylie Wong from Pacific Beach Elementary, Saranya Hegde and William Murillo from Sessions Elementary, and Jack Fahy and Cason Samarripas from St. Paul’s Lutheran School.

Each student received a plaque and 25 Mr. Frostie dollars.

The Hope of America Award was established by the Kiwanis Clubs of California, Nevada and Hawaii in 1984. The award recognizes and encourages students who have demonstrated academic accomplishment, leadership and good character.

According to the club, these students should also be potential leaders who have sustained our democratic way of life and exhibited outstanding citizenship traits.

Criteria for selection included capacity for leadership, ethical and moral character along with academic competence.
