BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — KGET sent the candidate running unopposed for Kern County’s treasurer-tax collector seat a questionnaire with basic questions about him as an introduction to voters.

The current treasurer and tax collector is Jordan Kaufman, whose term is set to end in January 2027.

We asked the candidate the following questions:

Below is the response from the candidate running for the treasurer-tax collector position.

Chase Nunneley

Age: 42

Hometown, current city and neighborhood of residence: “I was born and raised in Bakersfield and still live in the city.”

Family: Wife and four daughters

Brief educational history: “Graduated locally from Centennial High School. Earned my B.A. in Business Management from Anderson University and am a Certified Treasury Professional.”

Brief career history: “I have worked in County government for 19 years in various positions, serving as the Kern County Assistant Treasurer-Tax Collector for the last 11 years”

Desired office: “I am seeking the office of Treasurer-Tax Collector because I have dedicated my professional life to serving in local government, specifically in areas of finance and investment. Being the Assistant Treasurer-Tax Collector has given me firsthand knowledge of the office and its importance to the County and entire community, and I’m proud to continue serving as your next Treasurer-Tax Collector.”

Political philosophy: “As a non-partisan office, it’s important and necessary that politics do not interfere with performing my duties in an ethical, consistent, and fair manner. The Treasurer-Tax Collector must manage the County’s treasury pool prioritizing the safety of principal, ensuring sufficient liquidity for daily operations, and earning a market rate of return. Keeping politics out of the office allows decisions to be made impartially, resulting in the best decisions for pool participants and equal treatment of all taxpayers.”
