A man was sentenced last week to 216 years to life in state prison for the 2023 shooting death of a 59-year-old man in Harbison Canyon, authorities announced Tuesday.
Kenneth McNally, 42, was sentenced May 22 following his conviction by a jury on charges including first-degree murder, two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, shooting at an occupied structure or vehicle and assault likely to produce great bodily injury, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies responded at about 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 3, 2023 to a report of a suspicious death in the 1200 block of Harbison Canyon Road, an unincorporated area near El Cajon.
When deputies arrived, they found a man with trauma to his upper body. The victim was later identified as Samuel Holthaus. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office later ruled the death a homicide.
Sheriff’s homicide detectives identified McNally as the suspect, and he was later arrested by the Sheriff’s Fugitive Task Force.
