Free lunches will be available to children in Ramona this summer during the Ramona Unified School District’s Free Summer Lunch Programs at Ramona Elementary and Ramona High schools.
The free lunch programs run weekdays from June 8 to July 2 at the school cafeterias. The hours are noon to 1 p.m. at Ramona Elementary, 415 Eighth St., and from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Ramona High, 1401 Hanson Lane.
Both programs will be closed on Friday, June 19, said Jonas Rooth, Ramona Unified director of food and nutrition services.
“All children ages 2 to 18 years old are invited to enjoy free lunch at Ramona Elementary and Ramona High schools during four weeks of summer break,” Rooth said.
Funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and administered by Ramona Unified, free summer meals are offered to all children in the community, regardless of whether they attend Ramona Unified schools. There is no enrollment process, no income verification and no paperwork, Rooth said.
Summer lunch menus follow the USDA National School Lunch Program meal pattern, which includes lean protein, whole grains, a colorful variety of fruits and vegetables, and low fat or fat free milk. Lunch must be consumed on site, and each child may be served one lunch per day.
Adults are welcome to purchase lunch for $6.50.
