Now in its fifth year, the Julian Town Square Music Festival is continuing to raise funds for work on the outdoor park and performance space, as well as showcase local and area musicians.
The latest event, on Saturday, June 6 from noon to 6:3 p.m., will feature Tim Flannery and the Lunatic Fringe, Sarah Petite, Elizabeth Bowersox, Salinas Road, Rootful and Donn Bree.
The free, family-friendly event is hosted by the Julian Community Heritage Foundation.
The Square, at 2712 Washington St., has already undergone a major transformation over the past couple of years.
“The Square has been a work in progress and is really starting to take shape over the last year or so,” said Tyler Stamets, coordinator of the festival. “A long time ago, the spot was a gas station, and then it was a vacant lot for more than 30 years.”
The site is now landscaped, with large planters around the perimeter filled with shade trees.
Funds are still being raised for other site amenities, including a permanent stage for theater, dance, music and other community events, Stamets said.
Julian-based Bree, sponsored by Red Hawk Realty, kicks off the event at 12:05 p.m. with his singer-songwriter Americana tunes.
At 1 p.m., Rootful, sponsored by the Julian Beer Company, takes the stage.
“Rootful is an acoustic reggae band, local to Julian, with a fantastic island vibe,” Stamets said.
The acoustic indie-folk singer-songwriter duo Salinas Road, sponsored by Julian Pie Company, takes the stage at 2 p.m.
“Bill Jones and Paul Cruz make up the Salinas Road duo,” Stamets said. “They are local to Julian, but tour all over the area.”
Salinas Road is known for their intricate vocal harmonies and soulful acoustic storytelling.

Bowersox, recent winner of the 2025 San Diego Music Awards Best Folk or Americana Album for “California Queen,” performs at 3 p.m. Bowersox, who grew up in Ramona, is sponsored by Calico Cidery.
Petite performs at 4 p.m. Sponsored by Don’s Market, the country singer-songwriter won Best Country or Americana Artist and Best Country or Americana Album for “The Empress” in 2024, as well as other awards.
Beginning at 5:15 p.m., Tim Flannery and the Lunatic Fringe will perform their bluegrass Americana tunes to close out the event.
Flannery, a prolific singer-songwriter, blends bluegrass, country and rock, and has 14 albums to his credit.
He is familiar to many baseball fans as a three-time World Series champion coach with the San Francisco Giants (2007-2024) and a fan favorite player with the San Diego Padres from 1996 to 2002.
The group is sponsored by Awkward Deer Ranch and Community Valley Bank/Frontwave Credit Union.
“Anyone who has been to past festivals knows it’s a great day of music in downtown Julian,” Stamets said. “We encourage you to enjoy the musicians, stroll the artisan and food vendors and grab some pie from downtown while you are here.”
Donations for the Square are being accepted on site and at juliantownsquare.org.
The venue is within walking distance of numerous restaurants and attractions on Main Street in Julian, and artisan vendors will be on site. Food from Quiche’s Elevated Mexican Eatery and beverages from The Toasty Tap will be available at the Square.
Limited seating in the form of chairs and hay bales will be available. Guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs, hats and personal-sized umbrellas.
Free street-side parking is available, and a paved parking lot at Frank Lane Park, on the north end of town, is available for $10.
