(FOX40.COM) — It’s the hottest summer job on the market!
FOX Sports and Indeed are teaming up to find the most qualified and passionate fan to hire as their ‘Chief World Cup Watcher.’
FOX40 in the morning caught up with Sacramento’s very own, Conti Kolokotronis, who may just be the top pick to watch all the action on the pitch from New York City’s Time Square.
“I’ve been watching this tournament religiously since 1998,” Kolokotronis said. “This feels like a great opportunity to sit on a chair, commit myself to watching these matches, and give the American soccer-watching public an experience they deserve.”
His video campaigns have garnered tens of thousands of views, with his most-watched clip reaching more than 100,000 viewers. It has become one of the most-watched and engaged with videos in the running for the ‘Chief World Cup Watcher.’
“I’ve had the distinct privilege of actually playing with a world cup winner back in 2013, David Trezeguet who was a member of France’s ’98 world cup winning roster. I grew up on Willie’s Burgers, I grew up in the Paris of the West, you know the comments and the engagement has been a consequence of the fact that I come from the best city in America,” Kolokotronis said.
The support from Sacramento has been so overwhelming that Indeed itself has taken notice. Giving Conti an official shout out in one of their posts.
We also asked Kolokotronis how he thought Team USA would fare in the World Cup games.
“Look, you know, Uruguay 1930. Italy, 1934. England in ’66, Argentina and ’78 and France in ’98 all won their first World Cups on home soil. Huge competitive advantage to have a home crowd. Tournament football is very tense. You know, very small margin of error. So to have the backing of your country and have fans in the building is huge,” Kolokotronis said.
The official job listing said the ideal candidate will be paid a $50,000 salary and will be tasked with, “watching all 104 matches across the 39-day tournament (June 11 – July 19) live streamed in 4K on FOX One, FOX’s wholly-owned direct to consumer streaming service, from their personal office – a custom-built, dream viewing space in the heart of New York City’s Times Square.”
Kolokotronis loves soccer so much, he told us he’d do the job for free if he had to!
