The Long Beach boardwalk remains one of the city’s defining features, offering a scenic, year-round space where residents and visitors can walk, bike, jog or simply take in the ocean views. Stretching along the shoreline, the boards are more than just a backdrop — they’re an active hub for fitness and community events in every season.

Among the most popular traditions are the races that bring runners of all ages to the boardwalk throughout the year. From spring through winter, participants gather at the starting line, ready to take on courses that showcase the best of Long Beach. Here’s a look at four standout races — one for each season — to check out in 2026.

Spring: Race to Remember

Held annually over Memorial Day weekend, the City Manager’s Race to Remember continues to honor its founder, Ralph Kaplan, while drawing a strong field of runners each May. The 10-mile race typically begins on West Park Avenue and finishes on the boardwalk, offering a rewarding final stretch with ocean views. With multiple age divisions, the event welcomes both competitive runners and casual participants looking to enjoy a meaningful spring tradition.

Summer: Fabulous 4th of July 4K

Independence Day in Long Beach isn’t complete without this high-energy race along the boardwalk. The Fabulous 4th of July 4K, held in memory of Sgt. Sean Ryan, has become a staple of the holiday. The event also includes a children’s 1K, making it a family-friendly morning before the day’s festivities begin. Both races typically start and finish near Laurelton Boulevard, with awards recognizing top finishers across age groups.

Fall: Turkey Trot

A longtime favorite, the Turkey Trot continues to be one of Long Beach’s most recognizable races. Held each year around Thanksgiving, the event features both a 10K and a 1K, attracting runners, walkers and families alike. The course traditionally begins near Grand Avenue, winds through city streets and along the boardwalk, and finishes back by the ocean. With its festive atmosphere and strong community turnout, it’s a highlight of the fall season.

Winter: Snowflake Race

Even colder temperatures don’t slow Long Beach’s running community. The annual Snowflake Race, typically a 4-mile run, takes place on a winter morning and honors Joseph F. Farrell. Starting on or near the boardwalk, the race challenges participants to brave the elements while enjoying a crisp oceanfront course. As with the other events, top finishers in each age group are recognized, adding a competitive edge to this chilly tradition.

From warm spring mornings to brisk winter runs, Long Beach’s boardwalk races continue to bring the community together in 2026, offering a unique way to stay active while taking in one of the South Shore’s most iconic settings.
