Anyone heading to the Mission Beach boardwalk soon may notice the new temporary lifeguard tower, which opened just in time for the summer beach rush.
On Wednesday, the city of San Diego announced that crews had finished construction on the temporary structure, which allows lifeguards to operate safely while plans are underway to replace the aging station next door.
The temporary structure cost $2 million.
The Mission Beach lifeguard tower is known among San Diego lifeguards as one of the busiest stations in the city. After so many years of use, it’s dilapidating and in need of repair.
It was not immediately clear how much it will cost to replace the permanent station.
