Three bat-eared fox kits were born at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, zoo officials announced.
Bat-eared foxes are native to eastern and southern Africa. Their large ears can grow more than five inches tall, the San Diego Wildlife Alliance said.
The three kits were born to mom named Winter and dad named Teddy. For now, they spend most of their time in their den but are expected to venture out more as they grow and learn to forage.
Bat-eared fox pairs stay together after their kits are born. Males remain near the den and care for the young while the female forages.
The wildlife care team said, “both parents are very attentive, and first-time father Teddy is doing a great job protecting his family.”
