Oakland city leaders said the city’s new speed camera program is already showing results.
The cameras were installed in January at 18 intersections across Oakland as part of an effort to slow down drivers and improve traffic safety.
According to the city, more than 82,000 speeding tickets were issued between March and April. Fines range from $50 to $500 depending on how fast drivers were going over the speed limit.
City officials said they plan to release another report on the program’s impact later this summer.
