A woman was shot and wounded near a West Oakland elementary school Thursday morning, officials said.
Police responded to a shooting just after 10 a.m. on the 1600 block of Eighth Street, a police spokesperson said. The incident occurred near Prescott Elementary School.
When police arrived, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound. The woman, who was not immediately identified, was hospitalized and listed in stable condition. The Oakland Housing Authority was taking over the investigation, the police spokesperson said.
There was no immediate indication that anyone was arrested in connection with the shooting.
