A cause of death was revealed Thursday for a 37-year-old man who died during an arrest by Inglewood police officers.
The County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner determined the cause of death for Bryan Bostic, stopped by police March 10, was effects of methamphetamine. The manner of death is an accident, the department said.
Inglewood Police Department officers conducted the traffic stop after observing drug paraphernalia in Bostic’s car, the agency said.
Video recorded by witnesses appeared to show Bostic facedown on the ground with an officer straddling his back and another officer standing next to them holding what appears to be stun gun. More officers arrived and pulled Bostic’s hands behind his back.
After the altercation as he was taken into custody, paramedics were called to the scene and medically cleared Bostic for transport to the police station.

He was unresponsive in the patrol vehicle upon arrival at the station and pronounced dead, the medical examiner said.
“A clear plastic baggie with an unknown substance was found in Mr. Bostic’s mouth,” the medical examiner said in a news release.
In April, family members said they were filing initial legal claims against the city of Inglewood in connection with Bostic’s death. The legal claims are the first step required before a lawsuit can be filed.
Inglewood Mayor James Butts told NBCLA in March that while the incident arrest remains under investigation, he believes nothing sinister happened. He confirmed that officers used force to make the arrest, but said Bostic was checked out by the Los Angeles County Fire Department before he was driven to the police department.
