FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — A Fresno police officer has been arrested on multiple felony charges tied to an alleged domestic violence incident, resulting in separate criminal and internal investigations.
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office arrested Fresno Police Officer Efren Lopez on Tuesday on several felony charges related to a domestic violence investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office is handling the criminal investigation.

30-year-old Lopez has been placed on administrative leave while the Fresno Police Department conducts its own Internal Affairs investigation.
“Domestic violence is a serious problem in our community, and this is a disappointing reminder that law enforcement officers are not immune to the same problems many in our society face,” said Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto. “When an officer is accused of committing a crime, they are subject to the same consequences as anyone else, in addition to losing their ability to work as a law-enforcement officer.”
The department said it will not release additional information for now.
Due to the fact our agency is conducting the personnel portion of this investigation, no additional information will be released at this time.
