The term sheet establishes certain provisions that the county would like to see codified in the event of a sale to the Oakland Acquisition Company, an affiliate of the Oakland-based African American Sports and Entertainment Group.

Its main elements include a county agreement to buy half of the property from the former Oakland A’s baseball team for $115 million, after which OAC would buy that same ownership stake of the 112-acre site from the county for $115 million, plus 5% annual interest, in three installments.

Also, the sale of the entire complex would be in an “as is” condition, with the county off the hook for most environmental remediation that a development project might require.

Under the new terms, the county would also receive no less than either $50 million from the sale of the Oakland Arena adjacent to the Coliseum or one half of the sales price, whichever is larger, and would retain the right to approve such a sale.

June 30 is set as the closing date for a sale to OAC, which is also the date at which an unnamed arena buyer would assume operations of the facility, now largely operating as a concert and events venue.

The Federal Aviation Administration announced ground delay programs for San Francisco International Airport on Thursday because of low clouds and shifting winds affecting aircraft movements.

The reduction in aircraft movements at SFO started at 8:27 a.m. and will last until 11:59 p.m., with delays estimated to average three hours and affecting all flights in the contiguous U.S. and those from Calgary, Vancouver, and Edmonton.

A ground delay program by the FAA limits the number of aircraft arriving or departing in certain time frame. Flights scheduled to fly to affected airports are often held at their origin until an arrival slot is approved by air traffic controllers.

The restrictions are meant to prevent aircraft from holding in the air where they burn extra fuel and in rare cases reach low fuel levels. It also reduces the workload on air traffic controllers who have to properly space aircraft as they move through one of the busiest airports in the country.

SFO will limit 25 landings an hour before increasing to 36 as weather improves.

Airport spokesperson Doug Yakel said just before noon, 312 flights experienced a delay, about 27% of all flights, and 39 flights have been canceled. Delays were averaging 65 minutes but could increase.

In a Wednesday night meeting, Napa Valley Transportation Authority officials heard feedback from around 40 American Canyon residents on planned pedestrian and bike-friendly upgrades to the 1.5-mile strip of state Highway 29 that runs through the city.

The plan, dubbed the American Canyon Corridor Improvement Project, is aimed at improving aesthetics and safety for city dwellers and visitors. The project has been developed through a series of community meetings that started in 2022.

City Council members have long fielded complaints from residents regarding the safety of the road. Right now, Highway 29 is as pedestrian- and bike-unfriendly as it gets, despite splitting down the middle of a city of 22,000 people — many of them young kids who cross the highway to go to school.

Crosswalks are unprotected, there’s no bike lane and entire sidewalks are missing in some areas. In their latest report, the American Canyon Police Department states that in 2025 there were 78 recorded collisions on Highway 29, plus two traffic fatalities in the city.

Funding for the upgrades, which would cover a bidding process, design and construction, is projected at $50 million. So far, only funds for an environmental review have been secured, according to Vice Mayor Mark Joseph.

A Sonoma County sheriff’s deputy was injured during the arrest of a man allegedly caught checking for open gates and doors in rural Rohnert Park, the Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

On Wednesday at about 7 p.m., deputies were sent to the 4800 block of Petaluma Hill Road after a person was reported walking along the street and checking gates and doors to houses.

Contact was made with Santa Rosa resident Felix Barradas Moreno, 32, who deputies allege was the only person walking in the area and matched the description given by the original caller to the Sheriff’s Office dispatch.

Moreno was on probation for resisting an officer and the Sheriff’s Office alleges that during contact with the deputy, Moreno was uncooperative, continually tried to conceal his hands, and ran from him.

Moreno was pursued for a short distance and then forced to the ground, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Moreno allegedly fought the lone deputy until a second deputy arrived on scene and assisted with taking him into custody.
