FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — A Fresno man is facing felony charges after police say they discovered nearly 1,300 pounds of illegal fireworks during an operation Thursday morning.
According to the Fresno Fire Department, investigators working alongside Fresno police officers arrested a man accused of storing illegal fireworks valued at more than $10,000.
Officials say the man was arrested on suspicion of possession of illegal fireworks with intent to sell.
In addition to the felony charges, he was issued a $2,250 citation.
The Fresno Fire Department says illegal fireworks pose serious risks to public safety, especially during the summer months when hot and dry conditions can increase the threat of fires.
Authorities are reminding residents that fireworks-related consequences extend beyond injuries and property damage.
Selling or possessing illegal fireworks can lead to significant fines, criminal charges, and a permanent impact on a person’s future.
“Illegal fireworks are dangerous, unpredictable, and illegal for a reason,” the Fresno Fire Department said in a social media post announcing the arrest.
Officials are encouraging the public to report illegal fireworks activity and to celebrate responsibly by attending professional fireworks displays instead.
