(KRON) — Crews in San Jose responded to a vegetation fire Wednesday afternoon near the Independence High School campus, according to the San Jose Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched at 12:20 p.m. to the area of Mabury Road and Educational Park Drive. The fire grew to approximately 1 acre by 12:36 p.m. with a moderate rate of spread, officials said.
Fire crews were positioned for structure protection, according to SJFD. Four homes were evacuated before fire officials said in an update that they were no longer threatened.

The fire was deemed under control by 1:19 p.m.

Firefighting efforts impacted nearby traffic. People were advised to avoid the area.
