Authorities have publicly identified two members of a Chula Vista family who lost their lives to a predawn freeway crash in East County on Memorial Day.
Aaron Jose Perez, 25, and his sister, Sophia, 24, were fatally injured shortly before 3:30 a.m. Monday when the westbound 2023 Jeep Wrangler they were in veered off Interstate 8 west of Second Street in El Cajon, went down an embankment, struck a tree and caught fire, according to the county Medical Examiner’s Office and California Highway Patrol.
Aaron Perez, who had been driving, and his sister both died at the scene, the CHP reported.
The cause of the crash was not yet confirmed.
