Division 5: (3) Monte Division (18-13) vs. (1) La Jolla (16-12), 1 p.m.
Preview: Monte Vista came out of the loser’s bracket to advance to the title game, winning its last two games against San Diego-Southwest 21-12 and 15-13. The Monarchs feature five players hitting .400 or better, led by shortstop Olivia Mendham (.584 with 47 RBIs). Freshman Reena Del Rosario is hitting .481 and is 12-3 in the circle. … La Jolla senior Jacey Taylor is hitting .680 with a section-leading 70 RBIs. Ella Pearl is batting .554 and has scored 63 runs. Taylor and Pearl handle the bulk of the pitching. … La Jolla, runner-up last year in Division 5, has won one title (Division 4 in 2017). Monte Vista has won two championships, 1987 and ’89 in 3A.
Division 1: (4) Torrey Pines (17-12-1) vs. (3) Steele Canyon (20-11), 4 p.m.
Preview: Torrey Pines has taken the long route to the title game, losing its first game in the playoffs, then rattling off four straight wins. The Falcons knocked off No. 1-seeded Mission Hills twice. Senior twins Riley and Reagan Cullivan put off a family vacation to Italy for one day to play in the title game. The twins share the pitching load, combining to pitch 141 innings. … Torrey Pines coach Julie Neubauer opened the softball program at Steele Canyon. She coached Steele Canyon coach Kevin Pearlstein’s daughter Mackensie in high school. … Steele Canyon’s Ily Barclay is hitting .495. Delaney Shamaya and Belle Will have shared the pitching load. … Steele Canyon beat Torrey 9-5 in April. … Both programs have won two titles, Torrey Pines in 2012 and ’13 (Division 1), Steele Canyon in 2006 and ’07 (Division 3).
Open Division: (2) Point Loma (23-8) vs. (1) Mater Dei Catholic (28-3), 7 p.m.

Preview: Point Loma won the school’s first title in its then 52-year history last year in Division 2. Reigning Open champion MDC has won 10 championships, more than any other program. … MDC beat the Pointers 2-1 in March. … Sophomore Ella Poulin is 12-3 in the circle and bats .348 with 12 homers and 32 RBIs for Point Loma. Nine Pointers bat .309 or higher. Remington Spangler leads the team with 33 RBIs. The left-hander is the closer, striking out 83 in 56 1/3 innings with a 0.75 ERA. … Six Mater Dei Catholic players have committed to colleges, topped by pitcher Arri Romero (Arizona), catcher Charlize Masingale (UCLA) and shortstop Maya Matthies (Oregon). All are juniors. Romero is the section’s reigning Pitcher of the Year. She’s 24-3 with a 0.89 ERA, striking out 156 in 157 innings. She’s tied for the team lead with 29 RBIs. Masingale is hitting .348. Few catchers throw better. Matthies is batting .389 and is spectacular with the glove.
