San Francisco’s next free block party will mark the return of a fan-favorite electronic dance music celebration.
Back to Baysics is scheduled to take over Embarcadero Plaza for its third year on June 13. The event is a collaboration between San Francisco independent house and techno label Dirtybird Records and Another Planet Entertainment, the Berkeley-based promoter behind the annual Outside Lands festival in Golden Gate Park.
This year’s lineup includes Justin Jay, J. Phlip, Kevin Knapp and Mat.Joe, all of whom will help transform the outdoor space into a dance floor.
The all-ages concert is free with an RSVP.
Back to Baysics will also serve as a broader launchpad for Dirtybird Flight Week, a weeklong event series and writing camp that unites artists across the city. Last year’s inaugural edition culminated in “Flight Week Vol. 1,” a multi-artist compilation that is scheduled for release June 12.
Dirtybird launched in 2005, and has become known for helping launch the careers of house and techno artists such as Fisher, Walker & Royce and Shiba San. Its flagship Dirtybird Campout event, produced in partnership with Northern Nights Music Festival, is scheduled to return to Cook’s Valley Campground from July 17-19.
This year’s Dirtybird Campout is expected to feature performances by Clozee, Tape B, Walker & Royce, Vnssa and more.
Back to Baysics is just one of several free music events scheduled to take place in San Francisco this summer. Others include the Illuminate Live series at the Golden Gate Bandshell, hosting performances several times a week through November; the annual Stern Grove Music Festival
