The Browns will reportedly be receiving Pro Bowl edge rusher Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick and additional draft compensation.
Garrett, 30, spent his first nine seasons in Cleveland after the Browns took him first overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. On top of being a two-time Defensive Player of the Year (2023 and 2025), he totaled 125.5 sacks, five first-team All-Pro selections and seven Pro Bowl selections with the Browns. He also set an NFL single-season record with 23 sacks in 2025.
A trade of this magnitude is nothing new for the Rams. The team acquired quarterback Matthew Stafford in the 2021 offseason, and he immediately led the team to a Super Bowl LVI title on their home field. The Rams previously landed star cornerback Jalen Ramsey in another deal involving first-round picks, and he was also a cornerstone on the Rams’ Super Bowl squad. The team acquired Trent McDuffie, another All-Pro cornerback, from the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this offseason in yet another deal involving a first-round selection.
Now, with the Super Bowl returning to SoFi Stadium on Feb. 14, 2027, the Rams are back to making major moves.

Garrett signed a four-year, $160 million extension with the Browns in March 2025 that included $123 million in guarantees, making him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league. He had a no-trade clause in his deal but waived it to facilitate his move to the Rams, NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero reported.
For the Browns, Verse was named to the Pro Bowl in each of his first two NFL seasons after the Rams selected him 19th overall in the 2024 draft. He was named NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2024 after recording four sacks, and he followed that up with 7.5 sacks and another Pro Bowl selection in 2025. Cleveland will also have multiple first-round picks for the second year in a row after acquiring assets in a trade-back with the Jacksonville Jaguars during the 2025 draft.
