When I started playing golf during the pandemic, I was disappointed by the lack of stylish women’s sportswear. The shrink-it-and-pink-it mentality was strong, and I struggled to find chic looks that didn’t make me feel like Barbie.

Then I heard about Malbon. Founded in Los Angeles in 2017 by Stephen and Erica Malbon, the brand makes fashion-forward golf clothing for men, women and children. Womenswear features olive green wrap skirts, cozy cream collared sweaters and electric blue jackets, while menswear includes butter yellow pants, two-tone white-and-navy windshirts and bright teal polos. “Malbon is a lifestyle brand inspired by golf,” says Erica Malbon. “We make products for golfing, and that’s really the DNA of the brand, but we’re a brand that can be worn off the golf course as well.”

The Malbons live in Carmel-by-the-Sea and enjoy spending time in San Francisco, and in early April, they opened their first Bay Area boutique on Fillmore Street. “We’ve always had a contingent of people who love the brand and live in San Francisco—we ship a lot of products here, so we know that there’s a great customer base,” explains Erica. Although it’s a compact, urban area, the city boasts a surprisingly large number of golf courses: nine public and private within its limits.
