Lawsuit by swap meet against city is dismissed

East Hollywood—A lawsuit involving the L.A. City College Swap Meet has been dismissed. LACC Swap Meet Inc. CEO Phillip Dane had sued, saying the city and Councilman Hugo Soto-Martinez have not controlled sidewalk vendors, operating just outside the parking lot where the weekend event takes place, and that they undercut business in the swap meet. The judge ruled that Soto-Martinez’s support of street vending fell within First Amendment protections. Dane told The Eastsider, “This was about the City refusing to uphold the law. It was about the City allowing a councilmember to ignore an ordinance.” My News L.A.
