Adam Sandler has had quite the Bay Area weekend, hitting up notable restaurants and even a skate shop, but the reason for the visit isn’t just leisure – he’s here shooting a movie.

The film in question is “Time Out,” directed by Scott Cooper, who most recently directed “Bruce Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere” and “The Pale Blue Eye.” Sandler plays Vincent, a consultant who loses his job. Afraid to break the news to his family, Vincent invents a fictitious new job and betrays his friends and family through shady investment schemes. “Time Out” also stars Willem Dafoe, Steve Zahn, F. Murray Abraham, Gaby Hoffmann and Adam Horovitz of the Beastie Boys. The movie is based on the French film “L’Emploi du temps” and billed as a psychological drama that will stream on Netflix. Primary filming took place through May in Vancouver. The San Francisco Film Commission confirmed that the movie was shooting in San Francisco, but had no additional details beyond a filming notice. The on-site production contact could not be reached by time of publication.

Off-screen, Sandler kept busy. A well-known basketball fan, he sat courtside at the Golden State Valkyries game on Sunday alongside his wife Jackie Sandler. He also stopped by Original Joe’s Westlake in Daly City for Italian food. The restaurant posted that “it’s always a good day when [Adam Sandler] is in town!” Everyday SFC skate shop in Union Square also shared a photo of his visit to the store, calling him a “team player.” As is his typical casual style, he appears dressed down in both photos, wearing orange basketball shorts and a hoodie.

Sandler broke out as a comic star on “Saturday Night Live” from 1990 to 1995 before a string of hugely successful comedies including “Happy Gilmore,” which received a sequel on Netflix in 2025. Although best known for his comedies, Sandler has also established a reputation for being able to nail dramatic roles, notably in Paul Thomas Anderson’s 2002 film “Punch-Drunk Love” and more recently in the Safdie brothers’ “Uncut Gems” in 2019.
