July has many moods when it comes to movies, but the first days of the month are very much given to big, bright, and blockbuster-y bon bons.
Don’t be miffed by a movie being dubbed a “bon bon”: We’re simply conjuring up the most colorful and delicious and yummy description for a film that is fun, fantastical, and has made significant pop culture waves for years and maybe even decades.
“Shrek” and “Jurassic Park” qualify on both fantastical fronts, and as movie luck would have it, they’re the two films chosen by Cinespia to grace the Fourth of July weekend screenings at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
Everyone’s favorite affable ogre is the star of the July 3 celebration, while raptors roam their favorite room — it’s the kitchen — when “Jurassic Park” roars July 4.
Both movies were announced on June 1, along with four other cinematic classics, including one that is preceding the Fourth of July festivities by a week.
“Legally Blonde” will actually, like, round out Cinespia’s June schedule on the 27th.
Later in July? “Pulp Fiction” gets us dreaming of Quarter Pounders July 11, while “Rosemary’s Baby” and “Edward Scissorhands” follow on July 18 and 25, respectively.
Call these two July-ending choices a whisper of Halloween-y things soon to come.
As always, picnics and picnic blankets at the event are a-ok, there’s a themed photo booth (best wear your best Dr. Ian Malcolm button-down shirt, if you’ve got it), and DJ music adds flavor to the airy and ethereal evenings.
